dependents.QualificationsJOB SUMMARYThe In-Custody College
Navigator & Facilitator position reports to the Director of
In-Custody College Pathways and is accountable for helping men and
women inside the SF County Jail and Juvenile Justice Center prepare
for and be successful as college students. The In-Custody College
Navigator & Facilitator will also provide college success readiness
and ongoing individual support and tutoring to individuals enrolled
in classes provided by City College of San Francisco (CCSF). This
position also requires the facilitation of a College Preparatory
Classes to support students with a successful transition into
post-secondary education. In addition, the person who holds this
position will help to cultivate an engaging and productive learning
culture for students in custody.We are looking for someone who
insists on maintaining a positive attitude and enjoys supporting a
diverse group of people. If this job is for you, you are
comfortable working inside jail settings in addition to providing
support to men and women in-custody with navigating pathways to
post-secondary education.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESIn-Custody
College Navigation
- Advise and provide academic support through 1:1 student
conferences
- Establish and maintain professional relationships between
multiple stakeholders
- Serve as a liaison between the San Francisco's Sheriff's Office
(SFSO), and CCSF staff to ensure students have seamless access to a
continuum academic programming
- Collaborate with CCSF counselors to facilitate in-custody
informational workshops prior to students' release
- Collaborate with CCSF staff to provide a smooth transition for
students leaving custody and resuming their college classes at one
of the CCSF college campuses
- Establish collaborative partnership with CCSF City Dream
resource center
- Ensure access to Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS)
for eligible students
- Work with the Keys to College Director and Five Keys High
School Principal to support students with dual enrollment
- Remain current on FAFSA and Pell Grant related laws and
guidelines
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the California Dream
Act
- Create clear boundaries with students while building a
professional and supportive relationship
- Empower students to make choices and decisions that shape their
learning by ensuring student voice and student agencyFacilitator
- Develop and deliver engaging and interactive classroom
instruction related to college readiness and college success
- Monitor and assess the progress of students in the Keys to
College program
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students
- Ensure the accuracy of student records and progress
reports
- Submit monthly reports highlighting student's engagement in the
Keys to College program
- Provide a welcoming learning environment that encompasses the
diversity in ability, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation,
and gender identity of all students
- Develop and maintain appropriate, and professional
relationships with students
- Adhere to the Five Keys and SFSO policies and procedures
- Other duties as assignedKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Advanced skill in providing both large and small group
classroom instruction
- Comfortable interacting with students in an in-custody facility
environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient skills in Apricot, and School Pathways systems
- Ability to maintain strong and appropriate boundaries with
students
- Able to effectively and efficiently meet deadlines
- Innovative and creative problem solver, with a high degree of
adaptability and flexibility to shift priorities, and program
changes
- Willingness to engage professional development, and expand
skills as a College Coordinator and Facilitator
- Ability to manage complex processes and procedures with
attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong leadership qualities and a commitment to accountability
toward student outcomes
- Proven ability to analyze and interpret performance-based
data
- Maintain motivation in performing daily tasks
- Ability to perform responsibilities with minimal
supervision
- Consistently adheres to an 8 hour shift without the
interference of outside distractions
- Knowledge of vocational guidance and social adjustment
principles for interviewing and counseling techniques
- Strong awareness of the social and psychological challenges
facing formerly incarcerated
- Experience working from a trauma informed perspective
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Advanced proficiency in Zoom, Microsoft Office, Google
Workspace, and databases
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality and take all
precautions when handling sensitive informationEDUCATION AND WORK
EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Education or another related field
- A minimum of two years' experience performing relevant job
duties
- Experience working in in-custody setting preferredPHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS
- Must wear provided PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and
adhere to all safety guidelines and requirements, when needed
- Frequent talking and hearing conversations
- Long periods of walking, sitting at a desk and/or computer
station
- Lifting items that weigh up to 25 lbs.; reaching, bending,
carrying and stooping within the daily routine of tasks and
activities

- Travel to multiple sites requiredADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSThis
position is contingent upon:
- Satisfactory results of a Live Scan (criminal background
investigation)
- Successfully obtaining jail clearance for positions working in
county jails or probation locations
- Submitting proof of clear TB results. Results dated within 60
days prior to hire date are acceptableWORK ENVIRONMENT
- Moderate to high noise level
- Work environment varies from site to site
- Some personal safety risk working in an in-custody
facility
- Must be willing and able to work in a correctional facility and
