The new Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital (SSRRH) is located in the heart of Northern California's famous wine country, just 50 miles north of San Francisco and 30 minutes from the beautiful Pacific Coast. Providing quality health care services to the residents of Sonoma County for over 130 years, SSRRH has 118 licensed beds (84 Inpatient, 24 Outpatient & 10 Labor & Delivery) and serves a population of more than 130,000+ people. Centers of excellence include: Interventional Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Women's and Children's Services, and Level III NICU. The Bariatric Program Patient Services Coordinator performs clerical and support services and related work in a patient care department for an adolescent, adult and geriatric patients . This position requires interaction with patients in a courteous, helpful and compassionate manner. Primary responsibilities include assisting patients in meeting their insurance and clinical requirement in preparation for surgery. This ind ividual will help shorten the time from the introductory seminar to surgery. This ind ividual will also have responsibility for administrative tasks, such as appointment scheduling and insurance authorization for surgery. Other responsibilities include: answering all incoming calls fro the office in a timely and professional manner, meeting patients at introductory seminars, and acting as the patient advocate for the bari atric program. The incumbent has access to Protected Health Information as needed to accomplish the accountabilities as outlined in this job description. This includes access to the patient's medical record. Qualifications Education: High school graduation or equivalent required. Ability to speak and write English and make basic arithmetic calculations at a level for successful job performance are required. Course work in medical terminology are strongly desired. Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required within 60 days of hire into position. The ability to speak and write Spanish fluently may be required for some positions. Bilingual preferred. Experience: Two years of experience that includes interviewing and/or public contact which required gathering personal and confidential information, utilization of medical terminology and experience in a clinical setting. Knowledge: Knowledge of basic patient care and interviewing techniques required. Sufficient knowledge of HMO/PPO insurance programs to correctly assess the need for prior authorization of procedures/referrals and to interpret patient financial information. Knowledge of physician office scheduling procedures sufficient to create and manage efficient schedule for multiple physicians. Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to identify , interpret and explain medical procedures to patients, third party payors and medical facility personnel. Skill in analyzing situations and making timely decisions under pressure. Excellent telephone and customer service skills.
