Location: Santa Rosa

Wine Country Family Law & Bankruptcy Office, P.C. is hiring an experienced Senior Family Law Paralegal for our Santa Rosa office. (This position may have the option to transfer to our Napa office in 2019 as we anticipate hiring another paralegal in the near future). The candidate must have a minimum of five years of recent and significant family law experience in California and meet the requirements of a paralegal under Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code -- 6450. He or she should be available to work Monday-Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm. We are looking for a detail oriented team player with excellent communication and organizational skills. This person must be open to utilizing new processes to improve efficiency. After 10 years using the same (now tired) system (Abacus Private Cloud), we are excited to be in the initial stage of revamping to modernize our firm. We anticipate completion in January of 2019. Thus, flexibility and patience is required as we all learn new systems together. In the spirit of transparency, we are using a different approach in recruiting and hiring. Over the last couple of years, we have experienced challenges finding the right fit for this position. We've had people who were the right fit for the position, but not the right fit for the firm. We've had people who were the right fit for the firm, but not the right fit for the position. It seems that finding both is akin to finding a magical unicorn. We have a great team in place and want to make sure we find that magical unicorn to complete our rock star team. If you lack the necessary experience or do not share our values, we appreciate you reading this but please move on to the next ad. Our magical unicorn must be open to working within non-traditional service models in order to meet the changing demands of the consumer legal marketplace. If the thought of providing quality legal assistance to those who might otherwise be limited to using clinics or the Family Law Facilitator makes you cringe, this is probably not the place for you. However, if you like the variety of helping everyday people along with high-net worth clients, you're in the right place (Not to worry though, our Legal Case Administratorintake personis highly skilled in screening out potential clients who are not a good fit for our firm. Also, for the protection of our staff we generally do not accept domestic violence cases). While we appreciate a paralegal who can generate great billable hours, we are not that firm which generates discovery unnecessarily or brings cases to trial just to churn fees. It's just not us. Our team is very congenial, supportive, hard-working, as well as ethical. We collaborate and help each other out as-needed. If you can't ask for help when you need it, you spend more time on Facebook than on your clients matters, or you give off a "princess" or "prince" vibe or otherwise have a poor attitude, this is probably not the place for you. But, if you come to work ready to put in the necessary effort to produce quality and timely work, can seek and offer help when needed, can laugh at yourself, you have the flexibility and patience to withstand occasional chaos that comes with working in family law, and you want to work for a firm not stuck in a 1985 business model, look no further We plan on being around for a long time and will continue to evolve as necessary. We recently implemented an optional staff wellness program involving a fitness challenge. Our firm owner is in the bad habit of eating lunch, usually consisting of something sweet, fattening, our otherwise delicious while working at her desk. We hope to change this using a friendly and competitive competition Not to worry if this is not your thing. It's completely optional. We look forward to welcoming a new member of our team who shares our vision, values, and work ethic. Our firm is top-rated. We encourage you to cyber-stalk us on social media. We seek only to hire individuals committed to maintaining our high level of client service. Required skills: The ability to communicate intelligently and professionally with clients, attorneys and other professionals while retaining composure when faced with difficult clients and opposing parties; Strong grammatical and proofreading skills; ability to multi-task and work under pressure; ability to maintain the strictest level of client confidentiality; Timeliness and ability to work with little supervision; Friendly demeanor, professional appearance, and a sense of humor; Knowledge of Sonoma, Napa, Lake, and/or Mendocino County local rules of court is a huge plus Proficiency with document generation software (i.e. Essential Forms), MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, PDF software, and general computer/Windows skill, above average typing skills, and the ability to learn new software reasonably quickly. We recently implemented Lexicata client relationship management (intake) system and Slack for interoffice communications. We are considering implementing LawYaw document generation software in place of Essential Forms. We will be implenting Clio case management system and Trello project management software on 1/2/19. Our Ukiah Senior Family Law Paralegal is experimenting with "Tali" voice recognition time tracking software. If you have experience in any of these, you will really impress us Bonus points for applicants with advanced knowledge of Word (i.e. proficiency with Styles, proper formatting, use of tables, etc.). If the thought of learning new software sends you running to the hills to the safety of your WordPerfect software, this is probably not the position for you. If this excites you, you're in the right place We will all be in the same boat together, learning new software and sharpening our skills to bring us into the modern-day law firm workplace. Duties will include preparation of family law pleadings, financial disclosure forms, discovery, motions, correspondence, providing litigation support, and extensive client contact. Duties also include (back-up) phone intake and reception duties and delivery of urgent documents/court runs. Future duties may include assistance with bankruptcy Petition preparation (after cross-training). (If you are a pro at preparing family law Schedules of Assets and Debts and Income and Expense Declarations, this will come very easily to you).
