Job Description Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead
Endoscopic Technician’s primary functions include the present GI
Technician job description (involving preparation and care of
endoscopic equipment, supply acquisition, and direct patient care
within the scope of practice) as well as a leadership role in the
clinical environment. Starting at $32/hr., commensurate with
experience. QUALIFICATIONS: •High school Diploma or equivalent •BLS
certification •Computer knowledge •Two (2) years experience as a GI
Technician (required) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Provides input for recruiting, hiring, training, and disciplining
GI Technicians •Orientation and training of staff to include but
not limited to: • Function and testing of scope reprocessor and
steam sterilizer • Processing and maintenance of scopes to include
pre-cleaning, cleaning and disinfection • Handling of specimens •
Procedure room and processing room set up and take down • Handling
of biopsy forceps, snares, clips and dilatation devices
•Maintenance of logs in scope processing room, temperature and
humidity logs and eye wash station •Assists with planning
assignments for personnel and delegates specific duties and tasks
•Responsible for completion of annual technical staff competencies
•Provides input for annual performance appraisals •Ensures
compliance that staff adheres to protective required wear (PPE)
when assisting and performing decontamination and any other time
when exposure to blood borne pathogens or chemicals present a
hazard •Provides an inservice per year of related GI procedures
•Function as a resource person to other GI Technicians and nurses
•Proactively participates in QAPI and Safety Programs •Regular and
predictable attendance •Performs other miscellaneous duties as
assigned •Attends all required education Materials Management
•Communicates the need for and orders all clinical materials needed
for the Center •Maintains inventory based on Par levels for the
Center •Maintains vendor purchase files / packing slips •Negotiates
with vendors for goods and services, negotiating the best possible
price and service •Assists with receiving orders to ensure proper
supplies arrived, and price and quantities are correct •Coordinate
annual inventory activities •Manages all scope repairs – assuring
they are sent out within 24 hours Infection Control • Wears
appropriate attire according to facility policy / monitors other
staff members to assure that the entire staff is educated in
infection control policies and properly trained and adheres to
utilization of Protective Equipment • Practices recognized
principles of cleanliness and sanitation • Assists the Infection
Control Nurse and Center Director in monitoring and reporting
quality initiatives for practice improvement Safety Precautions •
Provides for patient safety in the waiting and clinical areas •
Provides for the safety of oneself and other members of the team a.
Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety b. Demonstrates knowledge of
the facility disaster plan Administrative Functions •Practices
unfamiliar skills •Uses proper resource personnel •Demonstrates
cost-effectiveness by using supplies appropriately and replacing
used supplies in a timely manner •Enters appropriate documentation
in the medical record or center logs •Provides patient care
appropriate to age specific need •Reviews policies and procedures
specific to equipment utilization based on manufacturer’s
recommendations/maintains ongoing review •Reviews the practice of
staff members based on the above •Actively participates with
clinical staff education (including documentation) to enhance safe
clinical practice Provides Equipment and Supplies Based on Patient
Needs •Anticipates the need for clinical equipment and supplies
•Operates equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
•Removes malfunctioning equipment from use and communicated to
Center Leader •Uses supplies judiciously and in a cost-effective
manner • Communicates/documents provision of equipment and supplies
•Assures procedure rooms are stocked adequately •Provides input to
Center Leader capital budget items Monitors and Controls
Environment •Regulates temperature as indicated •Monitors sensory
environment •Maintains traffic patterns in both the procedure rooms
and scope reprocessing room •Adheres to sanitation policies and
procedures properly disposing of contaminated waste following
Universal Precautions and OSHA regulations • Communicates/documents
environmental controls Respects the Patient's Rights •Demonstrates
awareness of the individual rights of the patient •Provides for
privacy through maintaining confidentiality •
Communicates/documents provisions for patient’s rights Performs

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions,
decimals, and percentages. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to understand,
read, write, and speak English, if bilingual Center, bilingual
language is required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret
manufacturer's instructions or instructions for use. Ability to
effectively present information, respond to questions, and
professionally interact with managers, employees, clients, vendors,
and the general public. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to understand,
read, write, and speak English, if bilingual Center, bilingual
language is required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret

Leader PHYSICAL DEMANDS: •Ability to sit, stand and walk for long
periods of time, i.e., 6-8 hours per day •Ability to exert maximum
muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds
in weight •Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to
support part of the body repeatedly or continuously without "giving
out" or fatiguing •Ability to perform physical activities that
require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your
whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking,
stooping, and handling of materials, lift or transport patients,
prepare medical procedure rooms, or set up patient care equipment
•Ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or
while holding your arm and hand in one position •Ability to keep or
regain your body balance or stay upright •Ability to exert yourself
physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out
of breath •Ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or

WORK ENVIRONMENT: •Days and hours of work may vary to meet patient
and center needs •The Center is a well-lit, ventilated and climate
controlled environment. The Center may require decreased lighting
to meet patient care needs or procedure requirements, such as laser
rooms and some OR/Procedure rooms • Ability to work with medical
and office equipment, some of which will have moving parts • Noise
level is usually quiet to moderate • May have exposure to blood and
other potentially infectious body fluids and materials or toxic
chemicals and cleaning solutions • Procedure rooms are often small
and due to equipment may have little room to work around and may
necessitate reaching, pulling, pushing • Work in close proximity to
patients and co-workers
