required Description: All NICU Travelers are required to float to
Pediatrics and Postpartum. They will take a patient assignment,
including couplet care in Postpartum. If your qualifications
include floating, please consider applying. Completed modules are
required prior to arrival. Travelers will be rescheduled if all
modules are not completed. There are no exceptions to this
requirement. The unit operates as a Level 3 NICU with an average
census of 22. We have 30 beds and require certifications in BLS,
NRP, and PALS. Nurse-to-patient ratios vary from 1 to 1, 1 to 2, or
1 to 3. In Pediatrics, the ratio is 1 to 4. Our electronic medical
record system is Cerner. We use HUGS for security and have a breast
milk bridge for scanning breast milk. Charge nurses are present on
each shift. There are no nurse aides in the NICU. Weekends are
required every other weekend, with potential for additional shifts.
Holidays require working 2 out of the 3 major holidays. Travelers
will not be required to take call. Navy blue scrubs are the
standard color. Monitoring is done using Philips monitors, and
nurses interpret basic arrhythmias. High-frequency ventilation is
available, as well as Nitric Oxide and Nava Ventilation. A neonatal
nurse practitioner is on-site overnight, and a neonatologist is
available during the daytime and night shifts. Medifusion pumps are
currently in use, with a transition to Alaris syringe pumps
underway. Strong IV skills are necessary. Respiratory therapy is
available 24/7 with 1-2 staff in the unit. Pharmacy services are
available 24/7. Shifts are 7 AM and 7 PM, with no block scheduling
allowed. Floating to pediatrics may occur but will be minimal.
Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts. Common diagnoses
include patients ranging from 22 weeks to term. The unit does not
perform neonatal surgeries. We handle a high volume of cases
involving sepsis, respiratory issues, drug withdrawal, and
syphilis. This is a busy unit committed to providing care for very
sick infants. There is a significant volume of IVs and TPN
required. No ECMO is performed, but delivery nurses and respiratory
therapists attend high-risk cases. Candidates must be comfortable
working with surrogates. The cancellation policy allows the
facility to cancel up to 4 shifts for a 13-week assignment.
