A Clinical Laboratory Scientist I (CLS I) at Sutter Medical Center
of Santa Rosa is responsible for routine testing completed in
assigned sections of the Clinical Laboratory (i.e., Chemistry,
Microbiology, Hematology, Coagulation, or Urinalysis). A CLS I must
be capable of: 1) basic instrumentation troubleshooting, 2)
resolving basic testing problems, 3) calibration of instruments,
and 4) running/analyzing the appropriate controls to assure
accurate test results. In addition, a CLS I must be able to perform
this position under pressure and may be required to work during any
shift depending on the department's needs and their training.
Job Description :
Bachelor's: B.S. or B.A. in a biological science.
Successful completion of a one year internship in a Clinical
Laboratory Scientist program.
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
CLSL-Licensed Clinical Lab Scientist
PREFERED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED
Experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in an acute care
hospital setting is perferred, but not required.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Basic knowledge of the field of clinical laboratory principles,
procedures, and practices related to their assigned department
(i.e., Microbiology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, or Hematology).
Understands the basic concepts of:
--- Continuous Quality Improvement
--- Quality Control.
--- Proficiency Testing Programs.
--- MSDS Program.
--- Laboratory Safety (OSHA Guidelines, Chemical Hygiene).
--- Infection Control.
Computer Skills- Capable of effectively utilizing word-processing
and spreadsheet programs.
Maintains a positive attitude.
Understands basic statistical methods.
Able to adjust in a positive manner to changes in work schedules
and assignments based on the needs of the department.
Capable of performing basic phlebotomy.
Able to problem solve effectively.
