Position Overview: POSITION SUMMARY: The Surgery Technician (ST or ORT, CST if certified), principal function is in the scrub role, providing necessary and appropriate equipment instrumentation, and supplies in the following service areas; Orthopedic Surgery including total joint replacement, Ophthalmic Surgery, ENT/Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Vascular/Thoracic Surgery, Urologic Surgery, including Cystoscopy and Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL), Endoscopy, GYN Surgery, and C-Sections. Performs housekeeping duties as necessary and assists in maintenance of supplies and equipment. Provides assistance in emergency procedures, as well as, elective and scheduled cases. Assists in preparation, transportation and observation of patients. Maintains education in surgical, operating room and related aspects of nursing care. On Call responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications: MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education : A high school diploma is required. A certification of completion of a Surgical Technician Training Program or verification of completion of on the job training is required. Experience : A minimum of 1 (one) year of Operating Room experience in an acute care facility within the past three (3) years, with competence to function in the scrub role is highly preferred. Knowledge : Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists preferred. BLS-HCR certification required. Special Skills/Equipment: Basic Central Processing techniques and procedures, and how to operate sterilizing equipment appropriately. Demonstrated scrubbing skills in the following service areas: Orthopedics, ENT/Plastic, Ophthalmic, General, Vascular/Thoracic, and Urology. Physical Requirements: Ability to work in an area that is in a constant state of change, filled with high emotions and labile personalities, and rapid pace. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 30 pounds on a daily and frequent basis. Bending, stooping, and reaching overhead is frequent.
