Government Affairs Director Status: Full-time, exemptReports To: Chief Executive Officer and Board of DirectorsSupervises: -Program Coordinator, InternsSetting: Combination of office, remote, community (Santa Rosa Headquarters) -OUR ORGANIZATIONThe North Bay Association of REALTORS - (NBAR) is a four-county trade association representing -3700 real estate professionals and industry affiliates. Our territory includes all of Sonoma and Napa Counties, the inland corridor of Mendocino County and parts of Lake County. We provide a broad portfolio of member services, including education, political advocacy, public engagement, arbitration/mediation, and more. On behalf of our members, and current and prospective homeowners, we advocate for housing, homeownership, and a sustainable housing economy. We prioritize policies and initiatives that impact the availability and affordability of housing and serve as a resource to decision-makers and the public on the shared quality of life issues facing the North Bay. -THE POSITIONNBAR is hiring a full-time Government Affairs Director (GAD). In conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer, and Government Affairs Committees, the GAD is responsible for the management of all government affairs programs and activities for the North Bay Association of REALTORS - and plays an essential role in the design and execution of advocacy, member services, campaigns, and public engagement. 1. - - - - - -Manage/staff NBAR government affairs program, committees, communications, and activities.2. - - - - - -Monitor, research, and present on policies and issues impacting the real estate industry before NBAR, government, and public meetings. Perform research, fact-finding and analysis on issues of interest to the real estate community.3. - - - - - -Represent REALTOR - interests before elected and appointed bodies and with elected officials. 4. - - - - - -Develop effective relationships with elected and appointed officials, key staff at the local, state, and national levels, community leaders and groups, etc.5. - - - - - -Strategically represent NBAR's mission and enhance presence by participating in various events, task forces, boards, and other organizations.6. - - - - - -Assist members in preparing for and understanding issues and elections impacting the real estate industry; respond to member inquiries and concerns regarding government affairs issues.7. - - - - - -Prepare written materials, research, and analysis to support government affairs activities - including but not limited to agendas, scripts, issue briefs, media/press content, newsletter and website content.8. - - - - - -When appropriate, acts as a media spokesperson for NBAR on government affairs issues.9. - - - - - -Actively cultivate and train REALTORS - to act as government affairs advocates and community leaders.10. - -Support NBAR's participation in C.A.R. and National Association of REALTORS - business meetings and government affairs advocacy - including but not limited to C.A.R. Legislative Day, Hill Visits, Red Alerts.11. - -Support NBAR representatives in C.A.R. and NAR leadership positions and maintain effective relationships with key C.A.R. and NAR staff and volunteers.12. - -Support NBAR's participation in CA Real Estate PAC (CREPAC) activities. 13. - -Propose, process, and track government affairs expenses. 14. - -Communicate and market political giving to NBAR members.15. - -Work cooperatively with NBAR staff and support as necessary in meeting the needs of NBAR members.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING:1. - - - - - -College degree in political science, communications, public administration, or related area; or significant professional experience in public affairs, ideally in housing, public resources, or related issue areas2. - - - - - -Resides in (or relocates to) the North Bay Association of REALTORS - jurisdiction and has knowledge of local issues, organizations, and public/elected officials. -3. - - - - - -Previous experience working with boards, committees, and member volunteers.4. - - - - - -Can research and evaluate policies and political initiatives, synthesize complex information, and produce content for publication (for members, decision-makers, and the public).5. - - - - - -Can communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, with a range of roles and personality styles6. - - - - - -Can manage a diverse portfolio of competing issues and projects with professionalism, accuracy. 7. - - - - - -Ability to create and implement advocacy and marketing campaigns.8. - - - - - -Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 9. - - - - - -Is a team player with excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.10. - -Maintains a professional, approachable communications style with members, staff, and stakeholders.11. - -Has a steadfast commitment to bipartisanship, confidentiality, and member service.12. - -Has substantial technical/computer skills; including Microsoft Office, online tools and platforms, and ability to learn member database.

Amount of Interface Involved: Requires significant contact with staff, NBAR members and leadership, members of the public, community leaders, elected and appointed officials.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a workstation using a computer, requiring repetitive motion of arms, hands and fingers. They may also be required to stand while assisting customers; to talk and hear extensively, in person and while on virtual platforms and telephone; and to occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities are required by this job including close vision.
Work Environment: The work environment is a single office setting with workstation, small store sales area.
Confidential Data: While this position does not have direct access to financial information, the position requires confidentiality and significant discretion with information regarding NBAR strategies, activities, and expenditures.
Amount of Travel Required: This position requires travel throughout the NBAR Region and meeting-based travel in state and out of state.
Equipment Required: Access to a vehicle and a cell phone.
