Position InformationBring your experience conducting
recruitments and classification studies to the County of Sonoma -
become the next Recruitment and Classification Manager.Starting
salary up to $68.04/hour ($142,007/year), a cash allowance of
$600/month, and a competitive total compensation package!*The
County of Sonoma Human Resources Department is seeking an
experienced human resources professional to lead and manage the
Recruitment and Classification Division. This is a fantastic
opportunity for a qualified individual to join a dynamic senior
management team.The Recruitment and Classification Manager reports
to a Deputy Director and leads a team of fourteen (14) dedicated
supervisory, professional, and technical support staff. The
Division provides essential county-wide services in the areas of
recruitment and examination, classification and compensation, and
other employment related services. Typical responsibilities of the
position include planning, developing, managing, and overseeing
recruitment processes and strategies; consulting with department
heads and managers to assist in determining current and future
staffing and organizational needs; maintaining the integrity of the
County's job classification system, which consists of approximately
860 classes; ensuring programmatic activities are carried out in
the spirit of the Civil Service Ordinance and Rules and other laws,
rules, and policies; developing, updating, and monitoring program
goals; providing advice to a variety of individuals regarding the
interpretation and application of Human Resources laws, rules, and
policies; representing the Division at Civil Service Commission
meetings, meet and confers, and contract negotiation tables;
overseeing and performing work related to Racial Equity and Social
Justice strategic plan initiatives, including the evaluation of the
Civil Service Rules, job class minimum qualifications, and
recruitment, examination, and selection processes to remove
barriers that may be adversely impacting job candidates in
underrepresented demographic groups; and preparing correspondence
and reports on a wide variety of technical and professional
issues.The ideal Recruitment and Classification Manager is an
astute and a strategic thinker, with strong analytic abilities and
excellent interpersonal and communications skills. The ability to
exercise good judgment in analyzing complex problems and informing
important recommendations with far-reaching consequences is

Human Resources Department has 65 positions and is responsible for
managing and administering a variety of programs and services
through its two divisions, Human Resources and Risk Management. The
Human Resource Services Division is responsible for employee and
labor relations, recruitment, job classification and compensation,
workforce development, equal employment, employee recognition and
special commissions, employee benefit programs, and the human
resources information system. The Risk Management/Administration
Division is responsible for County liability and insurance, workers
compensation administration, leaves and disability management, and

Academic course work that directly relates to the knowledge and
abilities listed. Normally, these courses would include public
administration, human resources management, business
administration, marketing, psychology, economics, sociology, and/or
other related courses.Experience: Sufficient professional human
resources management experience to provide an opportunity to
acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, four years of
professional experience in human resources management, including at
least two years of public human resources experience as well as
experience in the supervision of professional staff and human
resources programs, would provide such opportunity.License:
Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level
including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State
of California to perform the essential job functions of the
position.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of:
modern principles, practices, and methods of public human resources
management and general management; principles and practices of
supervision; job analysis; exam development, including item writing
and structured behavioral interviewing; job principles and
practices of classification and compensation; wage and salary
