Description In the newly created role of technical services and compliance director, you will manage and direct the compliance staff and related functions in order to implement timely and cost effective programs in compliance with government regulations. In this role, you will ensure all pertinent business units acquire and maintain FDA, TTB and ABC permits, approvals and licensing necessary for operations. Additional responsibilities include the conception and development of new compliance-related programs; managing regulatory and organic/biodynamic, FSSC 22000 audits and provide guidance to the organization with regard to compliance issues; act as liaison between FDA, TTB, ABC, WITAC and other governmental agencies, certifying bodies and wineries for same purposes. This position reports to the vice president, winemaking and winery operations.Essential Functions:Organic ComplianceResponsible for all aspects of organic compliance including Winery, Vineyard Operations and outside/contract growers.

  • Winery
    • Primary contact with CCOF for winery certification
    • Responsible for maintaining Organic System Plan (OSP) for winery
    • Maintain list of approved ingredients for winemaking
    • Research new processing aids and communicate with winemaking
    • Ensure that all facets of winery are complying, i.e. warehouse, consumer complaints, maintenance for pest control review
    • Coordinate MIP from winery and give to Production for label compliance
      • General research for anything on organic or biodynamic certification
      • Research specific country requirements for organic export
      • Vineyards
        • Primary contact with CCOF for vineyard certifications
        • Maintain list of approved ingredients (inputs) for vineyards
        • Coordinate and ensure that each ranch is in compliance from an organic or biodynamic-related standpoint and meets global standards
        • Participate in annual certification audit
        • Research new inputs for use in organic and biodynamic farmingFood Safety Compliance Responsible for maintaining awareness of relevant food safety regulations and coordination of appropriate response(s) to ensure compliance.
          • FSMA plans
            • Continually assess risk-based preventive control improvements
            • Develop and manages FSMA priorities and facilitates training
            • Perform root-cause analyses for quality and food safety related issues
            • Ensure compliance with applicable food safety regulatory requirements (federal, state/provincial and local)
            • Identify foreseeable biological, chemical and physical hazards
            • Develop GFSI and ISO 22000 certification conformance and ensure compliance
            • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data; make recommendations
            • Lead alignment of key stakeholders on the development and management of preventive controls to ensure food safetyPolicy and International Compliance (Export Markets)Engage in wine industry committees, public forums, industry organizations and events, as well as review regulatory publications to stay apprised of industry changes in all compliance disciplines.
              • Coordinate and cooperate with parent company Concha y Toro (CyT) policy and international compliance group
              • Integrate and collaborate with CyT Innovation and Research Center
              • Research compliance in emerging markets and assist in gathering information and required paperwork for export to new countries:
                • Prepare and maintain organic certification information, FDA registration and other documentation as required
                • Responsible for maintaining awareness of relevant food safety regulations ((in particular Food Defense and Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) and proposed)) and coordination of appropriate response(s) by the winery to ensure compliance under ISO/IEC 17025 (enables laboratories to demonstrate that they operate competently and generate valid results, thereby promoting confidence in their work both nationally and around the world).Environmental Compliance (Water Rights)
                  • Review technical documents including site management plans and results of impact investigations, conducting inspections, assessing potential impacts to the beneficial uses of water quality from winery activities
                  • Develop recommendations for management measures to be implemented, draft correspondence and waste discharge requirements, respond to related inquiries from consultants and participate in meetings with representatives of governmental agencies
                  • Use best professional judgment to assure that activities are being performed in a manner that will avoid negatively effecting sensitive beneficial uses of water quality such as anadromous salmonid habitat and domestic water supply. Make presentations to interested parties, agencies, local government representatives and the Regional Water BoardManagement Oversight Provide management and direction of the Winery Lab and Quality Control operations.
                    • Ensure the development and maintenance of analytical systems to assure the performance of physical and chemical analysis of grapes, grape products, alcoholic beverages, water and related materials facilitating the production of winery products
                    • Expand and update winery QA/QC program
                    • Expand and streamline production packaging QA/QC program
                    • Ensure compliance with all OH&S policies and procedures
                    • Ensure the induction and training of new employees to ensure duties are performed in a safe manner
                    • Instruct staff in safe work practices and enforce safety rules
                    • Conduct monthly workplace safety audits
                    • Investigate accident/injury/near misses and complete reports. Responsible for ensuring workplace procedures incorporate HK&S:
                      • Review and act upon HK&S improvement forms
                      • Fully integrate sustainability throughout existing business tools and processes:
                        • Build sustainability metrics into day-to-day business processes
                        • Adapt management systems to identify and manage sustainability-related issues
                        • Enhance decision support systems based on sustainability factors Position Requirements Must Requirements:
                          • BS in Food Science, Chemistry, Enology or Biology and ten plus years related industry experience, or equivalent combination education/experience. MS highly encouraged.
                          • Familiarity with FSSC 22000, HACCP, CCOF, FSMA, a plus
                          • Highly developed analytical skills with proven ability to think long term in order to develop creative solutions to problems
                          • Ability to interpret scientific information/data and regulatory requirements, communicate findings and make recommendations to stakeholders in order to maintain compliance and mitigate risk
                          • Proven supervisory experience and success developing, mentoring and building cohesive teams
                          • High degree of motivation with strong orientation toward quality; organized, detail-oriented
                          • Good working and theoretical knowledge of analytical instrumentation
                          • Demonstrated ability to independently plan, coordinate and complete multiple assignments with accuracy and within designated timeframe
                          • Advanced communication skills, both oral and written; ability to communicate complex issues in a clear, concise manner
                          • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts
                          • Ability to work flexible schedule to meet deadlines
                          • Demonstrated ability and intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office SuitePreferred Requirements:
                            • MS and previous research experience, preferred
                            • Experience with CCOF and organic compliance, highly desirable
