Job Description:
Energy Centers Tech Specialist Oakland, CA - Hybrid 12 Months
Pay Rate: 70 - 90/hr "Some webinars and in-person classes occur in
the evening so the typical 8 hour day would be shifted to
accommodate evening classes ie. 11 8 or noon-9 when this occurs."
the class schedule is determined well in advance. Typically,
evening classes are identified months in advance and a usually
minimum of 6 weeks in advance. To meet the needs of our students,
we will not be able to consider candidates that are not able to
support occasional evening events. Historically, this position
would be responsible for fewer than 60 evening events per year with
fewer than 30 of those events requiring in-person participation.
The 30 evening events that do not require in-person participation
are webinars that can be observed remotely. The events that require
in-person participation would likely be held in Stockton, CA and
would be part of the 20% travel requirement. - Individuals will
need to travel ~20% of the time to in-person trainings or events in
Northern CA territory. Out of service territory or out of state
candidates would be entertained only if they are willing to cover
their own travel costs to in-person events in Northern CA territory
with no cost or delay to Company. - Potentially throughout
territory most frequently San Ramon, Stockton, and San Jose
*Hybrid, currently in-person team meetings at OGO or other Company
location a few times a month, 20% of time at in-person events
throughout territory as Company navigates Return to People the team
may meet in the office 1 day per week * laptop and network access
*May expense mileage reimbursements to locations other than OGO

typically provided by the client, this would be reimbursable if
required and not provided. Background Client s Workforce Education
and Training (WE&T) team serves a vital role in teaching
California s workforce to recognize and act on energy efficiency,
decarbonization and electrification opportunities by providing
access to energy related skills, tools, and resources. WE&T
strives to train a workforce capable of meeting California s goals
in the buildings that they design, engineer, build and operate
while appropriately meeting occupant s needs. WE&T s curriculum
provides technical upskilling to help professionals (designers,
contractors, engineers, and building operators) understand how to
incorporate energy efficiency into their core job functions.
WE&T designs, develops, delivers and maintains curriculum on a
range of subjects focused on the sectors with the greatest energy
saving potential including HVAC, home performance, building
envelope, commissioning, building operation, and electrification.
Position Summary The Client Energy Centers are currently seeking a
full-time HVAC Technical Specialist. The HVAC Technical Specialist
serves as a subject matter expert who manages from creation through
delivery a segment of training and educational resources focused on
HVAC topics. This includes but is not limited to design
(principally non-residential focused), controls, commissioning and
operation with input from a Technical Advisory Committee including
industry and Client stakeholders. Additionally, the HVAC Technical
Specialist collaborates with partners throughout the state to
achieve Client's and California's energy efficiency goals through
collaboration with other training organizations. The HVAC Technical
Specialist will also assist the Home Performance Coordinator, the
Energy Savings Assistance (ESA) Program, CSD Combustion Appliance
Safety Testing (CAS) instructors, and Client Natural Gas Appliance
Testing (NGAT) instructors with HVAC-related subject matter
expertise on an as-needed basis. Ideally the Technical Specialist
possesses the unique talents to train others regarding the
technical, efficiency, and code requirements of HVAC design,
engineering, installation and commissioning in a customer focused
team setting. The HVAC Technical Specialist must be dedicated to
good engineering, energy efficiency and practical solutions that
meet the occupants' needs. The ideal candidate has experience in
electrification, HVAC design, engineering and installation as well
as education and public speaking. Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, construction, or
architecture or equivalent work experience. Ability to travel a
minimum of 20% of the time. 4 years of relevant experience in HVAC
design, engineering, construction, operation and/or HVAC
installation fields. Valid California driver s license required or
the ability to obtain one prior to start date. Desired
Qualifications Demonstrable work experience in the HVAC field
(commercial experience preferred). Excellent presentation skills,
including presentations to upper management. Thorough understanding
of HVAC and electrification related terminology, technology,
practice and codes. Ability to plan and execute a project while
balancing multiple goals on a team. Familiarity with current HVAC
technologies and their implementation including all-electric
buildings. Excellent communication, writing, speaking, and customer
relationship skills. Advanced degree in HVAC related fields or
equivalent installation and design experience. Experience working
with HVAC manufacturers in both commercial and residential design.
Experience in commercial HVAC engineering, construction and energy
efficiency community in California. Experience in developing,
designing, and teaching technical curricula. Knowledge of
California's Title 24 Part 6 Energy Standards. PE or C-20.
Responsibilities On-going delivery of HVAC related education
curriculum, including a mutually agreed upon teaching schedule, as
well as recruiting, onboarding, directing and evaluating third
party instructors or consultants. Manage consultant contracts
including initiating and managing agreements, approving invoices,
forecasting cost, and preparing budgets for quarterly and annual
planning Act as a liaison with HVAC industry, research,
professional, and educational organizations
