Position Summary:

Senior Accountant is primarily involved in the preparation, implementation and review of company accounting processes, procedures and financial statement deliverables. The position focuses on accurately maintaining and analyzing financial data while ensuring related internal control procedures are working effectively and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Senior Accountant is a full-time (40 hours per week) exempt/salaried position. Expectation may vary based on workload but not intended to regularly exceed standard work week.

Travel:
Travel is not typical for this position but may be required at times.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Though no formal management or supervision of employees, this position may act as general backup, as needed, for Director of Finance regarding approvals. Has responsibility over ensuring accounting operations are producing timely and accurate reporting and department documentation policies are being followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Engage in critical and confidential aspects of accounting, including but not limited to:


  • Work with Director of Finance on appropriate fiscal strategies for the company
  • Completion of quarterly financial statements after close of period including period-end adjustments; graphs, and narrative analysis for the quarterly financial package
  • Work with department heads on developing and forecasting of quarterly annual departmental budgets.
  • Lead quarterly reviews of department budgets
  • Maintain proper record keeping formats for financial documentation, making use of current technologies
  • Examine accounting records, including financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy and completeness; ensure compliance with standards defined within the department
  • Make use of in-house and outside resources to design and create useful workflow and record keeping tools for Sonic and the Accounting & Finance department
  • Implementation and training of new employees, workflow processes and tools for the department
  • Work to evaluate and optimize workflow processes and interdepartmental communication issues relating to workflow efficiency
  • Posting and reconciliation of payroll biweekly entries from HRIS system
  • Develop, format & maintain departmental Standard Operating Procedures guidebook
  • Prepare and review financial reporting and analysis in accordance with internal, regulatory, or legal requirements, as warranted.
  • Key resource for auditors and examiners on annual audits and compliance examinations.
  • Assists Director of Finance with forecasting of income, capital, and balance sheet trends.
  • Perform variance analyses (e.g. plan vs. actual and prior, multi-year trends) and identify significant items requiring further investigation. Perform follow-up investigation and suggest problem resolution.
  • Help to identify opportunities for efficiencies and improvements to processes, controls and technology systems related to regulatory functions being performed.
  • Profit center/cost center management and allocation
  • Various Internal audit procedures as needed
  • Profit center/cost center allocations for revenue recognition
  • Address miscellaneous accounting tasks and projects as needed
  • Make use of Power BI and other data analysis programs to format and develop reporting mechanisms used by Accounting & Finance team

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


      • Education - BS or MBA in Finance or Accounting, CPA or CMA licensure preferred
      • Experience - Extensive knowledge of GAAP principles, budgeting & forecasting, advanced financial accounting, 2+ years' management experience and 5+ years' experience in financial accounting position preferred
      • Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to groups large and small and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general
      • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
      • Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
      • Computer Skills - Proficient in multiple operating platforms; should have knowledge of Internet software, Telecom and Collocation; Microsoft Office Suite, Quickbooks, CRMs and ERPs including Viewpoint Spectrum for construction operations.

        Work Environment:

        This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
